After that, the electrical connector of the VSS must be withdrawn together with the VSS mounting bolt, and finally, the VSS. In the case of a manual transmission, prepare the car by lifting it on jackstands and in addition, undertake the removal of the engine under panels. Pull the electrical connector away from the VSS; then take out the VSS mounting bolt and the VSS. Replace the old VSS 0-ring with a new one, as follows the above mentioned steps in reverse manner. With regards to the automatic transmission it is important to understand that the speed sensors are fitted internally within the valve body and therefore not designed for do-it-yourself replacement.

Any time the speed sensor is removed, a new O-ring must be installed. The speed sensor is located on the right (passenger) side of the extension housing. To determine if the O-ring is leaking, look for transmission fluid around the sensor. Unplug the sensor electrical connector, then remove the hold-down bolt and the sensor. After that, remove the old O-ring and install a new one on the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the sensor hold-down bolt is tightened securely.

After raising the vehicle, disconnect the electrical connector from the OSS sensor, disengage the wiring harness from the clip, and set the harness aside.
