    A: Take off the oil pan, and the oil pan baffle if it is installed. Remove the bolts at the oil pump and then bring it and the drive extension down on the engine. It is recommended to look for sharp radial scores, cracks and other defects in the pump body, and the cover. How the gears are worn up-the adjectives are wear, galling or even chips; How long and how thick the gears are. By using a feeler gauge, one measures the lash between the gears and then tries to compare the results with the stated numbers. Looseness to be checked over are the idler gear shaft and the drive shaft extension. Examine the pressure regulator for this or that signs of scoring or sticking and examine it's spring for tension. Check that there is no bending of the suction pipe and that it is not in any manner compromised. If you come across a bad pump in any of the aforesaid tests, then replace it with a new unit and don't use the old one or reassemble it. Warm up the same with the motor oil to the pick-up screen while moving the pump driveshaft alternatively. To install the pump you must rotate the hexagonal driveshaft with its data in the oil pump drive, then tightly screw the pump mounting bolt to the required degree of turn.
