  Q: How to remove and replace battery cables?

  A: Make sure that you first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and reconnect it as the last one if not so, you could accidentally use the tool to remove the cable clamps and short out the battery. Don't forget to always disconnect first the negative cable from your battery even if you only need to replace positive terminal's cable. While replacing, first disconnect them from your battery and follow each of them up to their opposite ends. Take note of which way each cord goes before you pull it apart; this will make re-assembly easier. Buy new cables but carry along your old ones when going for shopping in case some needs replacement. Never try to mix cables, use only identical parts. Clean the threads on solenoid or ground connectors with a wire brush in order to scrape off rust and dirt. Use petroleum jelly or battery terminal corrosion inhibitor on threads lightly so as to keep away any future rusting of these areas. Install mounting nut/bolt and tighten it until cable is firmly attached on solenoid or ground connection. Before installing a new cable, ensure that it can reach the battery post without stretching. Put on the positive terminal at first then connect ground wire to negative battery terminal at last.
