In order to remove the valve covers off the cylinder heads remove the pivot bolts one after another, and along with the bolts, the rocker arms will have to be taken out, and finally, the pivot support pedestal. Record the positions of the rocker arms for reassembly and place all components of a given rocker in the same plastic bag with a reference label. Third, you should take out the pushrods and store them all at a specific location respected to the arrow showing that it is the front of the engine. To check the condition of each rocker arm examine them for signs of wear cracks or any damaged part that is in contact with the pushrods or the stem of the valve. Feel the pivot bearings for tightness and surface roughness; if components a re worn or damaged it will be necessary to replace the whole rocker arm. Check whether the hole of the pushrod end of each rocker arm is clear and if the pushrods are cracked or worn excessively or if the oil hole is blocked. Take each pushrod and roll it on piece of plate glass to ensure that it is not bent. To reassemble, apply a coat of clean engine oil or assembly lube on the lower end of each pushrod before refitting them into their original position, this is usually accompanied by a metallic clang as they seat firmly in the lifter's socket. Put engine assembly lube at the stems of the valves and upper ends of the pushrod, after that put clean engine oil in the pivot shaft and bearing of each rocker arm before you place back the rocker arms in their initial positions but without tightening the bolts. Turn the crankshaft until the no. 1 piston is at TDC, and tighten the intake valve tappets of cynd 1, 3, 4 en 5, and the exhaust tappets of cynd 1, 2, 7 en 8 to the specified torque. Your crankshaft should now be rotated 360 degrees by key and your intake valve rocker arms for cylinder #2,6,7 and 8 and your exhausts for cylinders #3,4,5 and 6 should be tightened to the required torque. Last but not least, replace the valve covers, power on the engine with your hands and look for noisy-valve train and oil leaking at the valve cover gasket.
