Chevrolet Avalanche Flywheel

The Chevrolet Avalanche Flywheel is a small but important part beneath the hood of the truck. It helps to stabilize the power of the engine, allows for starting the engine, and provides the clutch with its friction surface. The Flywheel is attached to the crankshaft. It is heavy to level out the stop and go bursts of combustion. Its ring gear works with the starter motor to get the engine going. As your clutch gets pressed, the disc clamps against the Flywheel face. Any scoring, hotspots, or warpage will spoil smooth shifts and need replacement. Throughout the production run, Chevrolet employed two Flywheel types on the Avalanche, a solid plate and a dual mass which sandwiches spring filled sections to absorb vibration. When minor damage occurs to the unit, it can often be resurfaced. However, on most DMFs, the unit must be swapped out, so the internal dampers or alignment tolerances cannot be restored once worn. Flywheel rim teeth are regularly examined in order to preempt grinding starts. Thus, Chevrolet Avalanche drivers get to enjoy a chatter-free, noiseless experience and minimal premature wear, something that loyal Chevrolet Avalanche owners truly value.

Each OEM Chevrolet Avalanche Flywheel we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet Avalanche Flywheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and reinstall a flywheel in 4.3L V6 engine on Chevrolet Avalanche?
    A:
Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands, then remove the transmission. Mark the relationship between the driveplate and the crankshaft with a marker or similar device, then remove the bolts that secure the driveplate to the crankshaft. If the crankshaft turns, wedge a screwdriver in the ring gear teeth to jam the driveplate. Remove the driveplate from the crankshaft. Since the driveplate is fairly heavy, be sure to support it while removing the last bolt. Clean the driveplate to remove grease and oil. Inspect the surface for cracks, and check for cracked and broken ring gear teeth. Lay the driveplate on a flat surface to check for warpage. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the driveplate and the crankshaft. If the rear main oil seal is leaking, replace it before reinstalling the driveplate. Position the driveplate against the crankshaft. Be sure to align the marks made during removal. Note that some engines have an alignment dowel or staggered bolt holes to ensure correct installation. Before installing the bolts, apply thread locking compound to the threads and place the retaining ring (if equipped) in position on the driveplate. Wedge a screwdriver through the ring gear teeth to keep the driveplate from turning as you tighten the bolts to the torque specifications. If the transmission front pump seal/o-ring is leaking, now would be a very good time to replace it. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
