How to remove and install a shift cable on Chevrolet Avalanche?

To remove the shift cable, disconnect the battery and block the rear wheels. Then, disconnect the cable from the transmission shift lever. Detach the cable connector retaining clip, and the cable retaining clip, and separate the cable halves to remove the transmission end of the shift cable.
