Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the wheel. Mark the strut-to-
Steering Knuckle relationship with white paint or a scribe and draw a line around the strut-to-steering knuckle nuts. Separate the tie-rod end from the steering arm. Remove the strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts, using a brass, lead, or plastic hammer to knock the bolts out. Separate the strut from the steering knuckle by pushing in on the strut while pulling out on the top of the brake rotor, taking care not to overextend the inner CV joint or stretch the brake hose. Support the strut and spring assembly with one hand while removing the three strut-to-shock tower nuts, then take the assembly out through the fender well. Check the strut body for leaking fluid, dents, cracks, and other damage that may require repair or replacement. Inspect the coil spring for chips and cracks in the coating, which could lead to premature failure due to corrosion, and examine the spring seat for hardening, cracks, and deterioration. If wear or damage is found, proceed with the strut disassembly procedure. Ensure the flat in the upper spring seat aligns with the steering knuckle flange, guide the strut assembly into the fender well, and insert the three upper mounting studs through the shock tower holes. Once the studs protrude, install the nuts to secure the strut. Slide the steering knuckle into the strut flange and insert the two bolts, positioning them with the flats horizontally. Install the nuts, align the marks, and tighten them to the specified torque. Install the tie-rod end in the steering arm, tighten the castellated nut to the specified torque, and install a new cotter pin, adjusting the nut if necessary to align the hole. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the torque. Finally, tighten the three upper mounting nuts to the specified torque and have the front end alignment checked and adjusted if needed.
