On models equipped with a Delco Loe II or Theft lock audio system, ensure the lockout feature is turned off before disconnecting the battery. For a fixed steering column, detach the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the steering wheel, and take out the
Turn Signal Switch assembly. Place the Ignition Lock Cylinder in the Run position, then remove the turn signal switch housing screws and the housing along with the steering shaft assembly as a complete unit. Using a screwdriver, lift the switch tab, gently pull on the buzzer switch wires, and remove the buzzer switch. Next, place the Ignition Lock Cylinder in the Accessory position, remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining screw, and then take out the Ignition Lock Cylinder, with installation being the reverse of removal. For a tilt steering column, take the vehicle to a dealer, as a special tool is required to remove the pivot pins in the steering column housing, making Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement impossible for the home mechanic.
