To begin the removal process, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the engine compartment under-cover. For V6 engines, the Bank 1 knock sensor is found on the right side of the engine block, just below the exhaust pipe connection to the cylinder head, while the Bank 2 knock sensor is on the left side, in front of the starter. If removing the Bank 1 knock sensor, take off the heat shield fasteners and the heat shield if present, then disconnect the electrical connector and remove the bolt in the center of the knock sensor to take it out. In V8 engines, the Bank 1 knock sensor is located on the left side of the engine block in front of the oil filter housing, and the Bank 2 knock sensor is on the right side, in front of the starter.
