Chevrolet Cruze Pressure Plate provides the clamping force for locking the clutch disc to the flywheel, allowing the engine to send power to the transmission or disconnect easily when the pedal is dropped. Positioned inside the bell housing and bolted to the flywheel, this Pressure Plate is in concert with the clutch disc, release bearing, and hydraulic linkage, allowing the driver to hold still at traffic lights and change gears without any grinding. There have been two main designs that have appeared in Cruze manuals. The diaphragm style Pressure Plate is a cone-shaped Belleville spring with the finger cuts flattening out when pushed by the release bearing, which makes it easier to pedal down and provides consistent grip as the spring wears. This is the standard design applied on everyday Chevrolet drivers. The lever style Pressure Plate is also known as three finger; it uses multiple coil springs and pivoting levers to compress and free the disc and has higher clamping strength preferred when a Cruze is applied in a performance or heavy-duty application. Compared to the lever unit, the diaphragm Pressure Plate is lighter, engages more in a progressive way, and is generally longer lasting in stock Chevrolet setups.
