    Q:
What are the steps and considerations for installing a Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate on Chevrolet Cruze? Posted by Customer
    A:
On the 2016 and later models, the manufacturer has set down procedures on how to pre-load the clutch pressure plate using special tool #DT-6263 in order to assess some degrees of movement of the clutch disc and then some values to be kept on record in the process of installing a new clutch disc. To gain access to clutch components it is necessary to have transaxle out while the engine remains in the car; if the engine is being pulled for major overhaul, check the clutch, it is wise to replace the clutch even if it looks worn because by the time the transaxle is pulled out again, the clutch assembly will be much more expensive than the set of new clutch parts. The transaxle should be slid out while supporting the engine above, and if possible with an engine support fixture or engine hoist. Clutch alignment tool should be fitted Through the clutch disc hub to help support the disc when it is being removed. There should be indexing marks on the flywheel and pressure plate; however, if there are no such marks, they should be scribed or painted so that the flywheel and pressure plate will fit accurately when brought together. The pressure plate-to-flywheel are required to be undone in a star-like manner to release pressure from the spring to remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. All the members should be examined for wear; fly wheel for crack or groves, clutch disc lining for thickness as well as damage, pressure plate member for excessive wearage or scoring. During installation, special attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the surfaces of the flywheel and the pressure plate-it is very important to wash them from the oil or grease. With the clutch positioned against the flywheel the clutch disc and pressure plate must be properly aligned and secured and this can be best done with an alignment tool. For cars produced after 2016, the clutch disc should be aligned with the central hole with push-pull rods, then the pressure plate should be brought in to the previously measured preload and then new bolts should be fitted and tightened to the maximum torque. Tightening of the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts must be done in a sequence by tightening in an 'X' formation to prevent the bending of the flywheel or over-tightening of the pressure plate and that alignment tool should be removed after confirmation of proper centering of the clutch disc. Last of all, one should fit the clutch release cylinder, and then it is necessary to refit the transaxle, as well as all components which have been removed.
