How to replace Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on Chevrolet Equinox?

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Turn the key to the Run position, then put the shifter into Neutral. Use a screwdriver to carefully push the trim collar at the base of the shift knob downward. Loosen the set screw without removing it, then lift off the knob. For 2005 through 2006 models, remove the console and release the ignition interlock cable from the bracket by pinching the tabs on the clip, then pry the end from the shift lever. For 2007 and later models, remove the instrument panel center trim panel, the console top panel, and the right console side panel.
