Chevrolet Express Headlight Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to adjust sealed and composite beam headlights on Chevrolet Express?
A: Sealed beam headlights feature an adjusting screw for horizontal adjustments and another for vertical adjustments, while composite headlights only have a vertical adjusting screw. Several methods exist for adjusting headlights, with the simplest requiring an open area, a blank wall, and a level floor. Begin by positioning masking tape vertically on the wall in line with the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights, followed by a horizontal tape line aligned with the centerline of the headlights. It may be easier to place the tape with the vehicle parked just a few inches away. Adjustments should be made with the vehicle parked 25 feet from the wall, sitting level, with a full gas tank and no unusually heavy load. For low beam adjustment, position the high intensity zone two inches below the horizontal line and two inches to the side of the headlight vertical line, away from oncoming traffic, using the top adjusting screw to raise or lower the beam and the side screw on sealed beam headlights to move the beam left or right. With high beams on, the high intensity zone should be vertically centered just below the horizontal line; however, achieving perfect alignment for both high and low beams may not be possible, so prioritize low beams for safety. It is advisable to have the headlights adjusted by a dealer service department at the earliest opportunity.
