Chevrolet Express Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear shock absorbers on Chevrolet Express?
A: Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed under the frame rails. Support the rear axle with a floor jack placed under the axle tube on the side being worked on, ensuring not to raise the axle but just support its weight. Remove the bolts that attach the upper end of the shock absorber to the frame and the nut and bolt that connect the lower end of the shock to the axle bracket; to detach a rear shock from the axle, first remove this nut and bolt, then take out the two mounting bolts at the top of the shock. If the nut is stuck due to rust, apply some penetrating oil and let it soak for a while. Extend the new shock absorber as far as possible and install new rubber grommets into the shock absorber eyes if they are not already present. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring that the shock absorber mounting fasteners are tightened to the specified torque.
