  Q: How to replace the negative and positive battery cables?

  A: The negative and positive battery cables are part of a single assembly and cannot be replaced individually. It is important to inspect the cables periodically, checking for damage, cracked insulation and corrosion. Cracks, loose wire strands and corrosion should be observed in the cable-to-terminal connections. If there is white fluff deposit under the insulation, replace the cable. While replacing the cables, first you have to disconnect instrument panel electrical connector from battery current sensor then disconnect negative cable from negative battery post. Write down how the cables are routed properly. Disconnect old cables from battery terminals; and separate rest of cable assembly. Remove electrical tape or cable ties to get at smaller cables. Replace with identical cable assembly; clean starter solenoid threads and ground connection threads. Put lower ends of cables on first; follow with upper ends. Reattach the cables to harness using new cable ties or electrical tape as required. Install all locator pins and positioning clips Finally, connect again the ground cable to the negative battery post.
