To permit easier rotation of the
Crankshaft, the flywheel is fitted at this stage; however, if minimizing engine weight is necessary for maneuverability during rebuild, this operation can be postponed. Begin by installing the flywheel with the dowel hole aligned with the dowel hole in the crankshaft, ensuring that on vehicles with automatic transmission, the converter attaching pads and flange collar face towards the transmission. Next, torque tighten the attaching bolts, using a clean wooden block wedged between the crankshaft and cylinder block to prevent rotation while tightening. It is important to tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. If the engine is installed, proceed to install the clutch, clutch housing, and either the manual or automatic transmission.
