Chevrolet Nova Piston Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly install a piston and connecting rod assembly on Chevrolet Nova?
A: Space the Piston Ring end gaps around the piston as appropriate to the correct alignment with the connecting rod and lubricate the cylinder bores with engine oil. Place a piston ring compressor over well lubricated piston rings. Fit rubber tube pieces to the threads of the connecting rod bolts, lubricate the bearing shells and fit them as required. Place properly aligned the connecting rod/piston assembly into its bores meant for it. The base of the piston ring compressor should rest on the top face of the cylinder block; then tap the assembly gently into the bore with the wooden part of a hammer. Safely connect the connecting rod to the crank pin then install the bearing cap whereby the numbers accompanying the cap and the connecting rod must align. Install the connecting rod to the next piston and fasten the cap bolts to the nominal torque; conduct the operations for the rest of the pistons as the Crankshaft rotation is required to connect the rods and bearing caps.
