Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For carbureted vehicles and those with
Throttle Body injection, unscrew the locknut on the throttle cable at the
Carburetor or throttle body, then pass the cable through the slot in the throttle lever and slide the cable end from the lever. Inside the vehicle, disconnect the cable from the accelerator pedal by passing it through the slot at the top of the pedal linkage and pulling the cable through the firewall into the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to adjust the cable for the correct amount of free play by lightly pushing on the cable between the throttle lever and the cable bracket, measuring the deflection, and adjusting the adjuster nut as necessary. For vehicles with sequential multiport fuel injection, rotate the throttle linkage cam clockwise to disengage the throttle cable, loosen the locknut and adjuster nut at the cable bracket on the air intake plenum, and disengage the cable from the bracket and clip at the camshaft cover. Inside the vehicle, disengage the cable end from the accelerator pedal, squeeze the tangs of the retainer, and pull the cable through the firewall. With the throttle valve closed, measure accelerator pedal freeplay and adjust as needed by loosening the locknut and turning the adjuster nut. Have an assistant push the accelerator pedal to the floor, then measure the clearance between the throttle lever and the lever stopper, adjusting the pedal stopper bolt if necessary to ensure proper clearance.
