To remove the components simply unplug the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. After that, the secondary air injection check valve assembly and the exhaust manifold heat shield should be taken off. Lift the vehicle and secure on jackstands, and if so equipped, remove the engine block heater and be sure to drain the cooling system if that could be done. Take off the muffler by applying penetrating oil on the bolts hold the exhaust manifold then unscrew from above. Going along the oxygen sensor you get to where it connects to an electrical connector-unplug it and then you pull out the lead from the retaining clip. Take off the cylinder head by unbolt the exhaust manifold mounting nuts and taking off the manifold. For installation, the mating surfaces on the cylinder head, manifold and exhaust pipe should be free from debris and dent or scratched using a scraper and brake system cleaner. Put in a new gasket on the heads of the cylinder studs, set the manifold, and in turn tighten the nuts to the indicated torque with an interval of the center nut. Screw the exhaust pipe to the manifold tightly and put nuts in the equivalent of the torque to the manifold. This is followed by the rest of the installation process which is just the mirror image of the removal process. Last, connect the battery, recharge the cooling system if it had been drained, and start the engine to look for exhaust emission.
