GMC Terrain A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to discharge an air conditioning system and accessing the Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV)?
A: To discharge the air conditioning system, it is recommended to have an automotive air conditioning technician perform the task. Additionally, in order to access the Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV), the fuel and brake lines should be detached and moved aside. The refrigerant line fitting nut should then be removed and the line fitting detached from the TXV. Following this, the TXV-to-firewall mounting bolts can be removed and the valve itself can be taken out. For installation, the process is simply the reverse of removal, with the use of new O-rings or seals that have been lubricated with refrigerant oil as necessary.
