First, shut the car off and run the engine until it cools; next, unbend the upper and lower hoses, including the heater return hose at the water pump. After that, one has to take out the fan, the fan pulleys, and the belts; then, the fuel lines should be disconnected, the ends of the fuel lines plugged, and the fuel pump should be removed. Move on to the next step to the removal of the generator together with its brackets and the distributor case though you need to make sure that the
Timing Chain and sprockets are not interfered with by turning the distributor rotor. Pull the thermostat by-pass hose clip downwards which is present at the front clamp and move it to the back. Unscrewing of the harmonic balancer bolt and putting out of shoe washer followed by removal of the harmonic balancer. Screw out, therefore, the bolts that hold the timing cover to the cylinder block and the two that join the
Oil Pan to the timing cover and finally take off the timing cover. After that remove timing cover lubriiance and clean it well but making sure it is free from any old gasket material and that also the surface is not damaged. Before refitting, unbolt the
Oil Pump cover and fill the gaps around the oil pump gears with petroleum jelly in a bid to eliminate any air space which would have been created forcing the pump to lose its prime. Replace the gasket of the pump cover and tighten down the bolts to factory recommended torque rating. Check the block and the timing cover surfaces then apply new gasket on the cover. All the studies recommend that it is important to lubricate the harmonic balancer shaft where it will move through the timing cover seal to avoid getting damaged when the engine is started. Place the cover against block and engage the dowel holes on it with the help of the dowel pins on the block. Lubricate the threads of the bolts as far as the application of sealer is concerned and tighten the bolts as specified. Last, embrace the harmonic balancer, bolt and washer and-utilize a screwdriver or equal tool to lock the flex plate or flywheel starter teeth and torque-tighten the harmonic balancer bolt to the prescribed measure.
