To first get to the clutch master cylinder you need to first first take off the wire clip and washer from the clutch pedal assembly pivot stud and then there the pushrod from the clutch pedal assembly. Locate the hydraulic line that goes to the master cylinder, if possible, wrap shop rags around it and then unscrew the fitting. Next they should disconnect nuts, which connect master cylinder to the vehicle cowl and then take out the master cylinder. On the overhaul, remove the reservoir cap, remove the fluid and dispose it appropriately and retract the dust cover. Take out the circlip, retaining washer and the pushrod and shake the cylinder to expel the plunger assembly out of it. Pull the spring retainer leaf upwards to release the spring assembly and depress the spring to release the valve stem, using a spanner, remove the spring, the valve spacer and the spring washer. Take the valve seal off valve head spindle, wash all with denatured alcohol and view the barrel of master silinder carefully for any sign of wear or damage. Should the latter be weary, you might want to change the master cylinder. The plunger seal is placed over the plunger and the centre valve seal with the smallest diameter facing forwards. Place the spring washer on top of the valve stem; put on the valve spacer and spring and fit the spring retainer while compressing the spring. Attach the spring to the plunger and retaining it while you have to lubricate the seal as well as the plunger bore with clean brake fluid. Insert the plunger assembly in to the cylinder body, place the pushrod and retaining washer and then fit the circlip. The inside of the dust cover should be lubricated with silicone lubricant before it is placed in position accompanied by the cap washer and reservoir cap. In terms of installation, the master cylinder has to be mounted on the cowl, the nuts of the master have to be tightened, the hydraulic line has to be connected to the master and the fitting has to be tightened. Last is to connect the pushrod and fit on the washer along with the clip before performing the clutch hydraulic system bleeding.
