The throttle cable regulates the transaxle line pressure for the shift feel and timing, and part throttle and detent downshifts. It links to the link at the throttle lever and bracket on transaxle, and to the throttle lever on TBI system. To unbolt the cable, one has to unlock it from the throttle body, lift the cable cover at the transaxle until it becomes visible, unbolt it and release the cable from the transaxle rod. Also, unbolt the clip that locks the cable at the valve cover end and pull this cable. To install the new cable, screw it at the transaxle and tighten the bolt to the prescribed turn; screw it at the throttle body and use the clip at the valve cover. The throttle cable should then be realigned before operating the car; this normally takes some time after an assembly has been completed. Throttle body adjustment is carried out with the engine switch off and entails revolving the throttle lever anti-clockwise, checking that the throttle cable moves freely and only a limited distance with considerable resistance. Metal readjust tab at the engine end has to be pressed when synchronising the slider and then be let off when it locks against the fitting. Repositioning the throttle lever in such a way that it gets to end of the travel duro will cause the cable to turn through the slider and set itself thereby creating slack. Make sure the cable slides easily and check again after the engine is warmed up every time; then road test. If problems remain, take the car to a dealer service department.
