On V6 models the fuel pump is located on the left-front side of the engine while on V8 models it is on the right front side of the engine. The two kinds of fuel pumps are integrated and are not serviceable, however, the pumps can be checked on the vehicle. There must be fuel in the tank and where there is leakage at the connecting end between the fuel tank and the carburetor, then tight them so that GASOLINE does not come out of them. Examine the tubes for flat areas and bends that can give rise to a restricted fuel flow; air leaks or restrictions on the suction side of the fuel pump will have a very short effect on the fuel pump output. Also, verify existence of the fuel pump diaphragm flange leaks, Remove the ignition primary connector at distributor if there is or ignition coil; pull the fuel inlet line out from the carburetor and connect the line with rubber fuel hose and dip the other end in a receptacle containing approved gasoline. Turn the engine several times to ensure that fuel jets skew out clearly from the wide end of the line; if not, it may be that the supply of fuel is blocked or the pump has malfunctioned. Last of all, screw a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel line's end and turn the engine for a number of revolutions and read at the pressure on the gauge, which should range from 5 to 7 psi. If fuel pressure is low and fuel line is not restricted then fuel pump must be replacement with a new one.
