When replacing the shift cable, loosen first the cable terminal from the car's battery negative terminal. Then, first, take off the air filter housing, as well as the air intake duct. On the outside of the vehicle: in the engine compartment; unpaid shift cable from the transaxle manual lever pulling affect from the ballstud using a thin panel tool or flat-bladed screwdriver. Disconnect the shift cable from the cable bracket on transaxle: there is a clip which should be removed and there are two locking tangs which when squeezed will free the cable housing from the bracket. In some of the models, one may have to unlock the cable and the bracket with a little clip that holds the cable while in the others, there will be tabs that you just have to press to release the cable. Next, pull the center console and free the shift cable lower end from the ballstud on the lever of the shift. Pull the cable from the bracket on the back of the shift lever base where some of the models use the clip or tabs that have to be squeezed in order for the release of the cable with the control assembly. To access the interior of the case follow the cable to the cable grommet and using a took pry it out of the hole to guide the cable through to the other side to have it removed. The process is the exact opposite to that of removal which I ensure to make necessary adjustments on the new cable and new clips. For adjustment, there is a shift cable adjustment clip that should be comfortably seated in the released position at transaxle if the transmission and shifter are in Park and the transaxle lever should be pushed into the Park. The rest is as follows: inside the passenger compartment, put the shift lever at the center console into PARK and then insert the shift cable adjustment clip into that locked position. Make sure that the engine starts only in Park and Neutral; if it starts in any other position, adjustment and check Transmission Range Sensor, adjust the Shift Cable again.
