With the window glass fully raised, begin by removing the door trim panel, the energy absorber pad if present, and the water shield. For coupe models, on early versions, take off the cover assembly if applicable, then remove the retaining nut or drill out the rivets as necessary, detach the lock rods, and take the handle off the door. For later models, disconnect the lock rods from the latch and remove the handle retaining nuts through the door frame opening, then rotate the lock cylinder pawl for clearance and remove the door handle. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For sedan models, if working on rear door handles, first remove the window glass. Use a small screwdriver to pry the remote rod out of the handle, then remove the nuts or drill out the rivets as needed, and lift the handle off. Installation is again the reverse of removal. For the inside handle, disconnect the rod from the handle, remove the bolt or punch out the center pins of the rivets securing the
Window Regulator, and drill out the rivets with a 3/16-inch drill bit. Lift the handle from the door, and to install, position the handle and secure it using 3/16-inch rivets and a rivet tool, completing the installation in reverse order of removal.
