This procedure applies to V6 models only. For 2002 and 2003 (3.0L) V6 models, the CMP sensor is located at the right (drivebelt) end of the front cylinder head. Begin by disconnecting the CMP sensor electrical connector, then disconnect the
Knock Sensor wiring to access the CMP sensor mounting bolt. Remove the mounting bolt and CMP sensor, and installation is the reverse of removal. For 2004 and later (3.5L) V6 models, the CMP sensor is also located at the right (drivebelt) end of the front cylinder head, but behind the timing belt rear cover. Start by removing the timing belt and the front camshaft sprocket. Disconnect the CMP wiring harness, then remove the sprocket rear cover and its lower seal. To disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor, depress the release tab and pull off the connector. Detach the rear timing bell cover by removing two bolts, then remove the CMP sensor from the cover by taking out the mounting bolt. Installation is the reverse of removal.
