Q: How do you remove and install the steering gear?
A: Begin by loosening the front wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jack stands, in order to remove the rack and pinion. Remove the wheels and mark where the intermediate shaft is relative to the steering shaft U-joint. The pinch bolt has to be removed first; then you can go ahead and separate Tie Rod Ends from Steering Knuckles. Retract links from both ends of stabilizer bar, uncouple shift mechanism cable from rack and pinion if an automatic transaxle with CVT is installed in a vehicle. Take away mounting bolts for rack and pinion, afterwards undoing shaft coupling between intermediate journal of rack & pinion with pins going through it. Finally, remove right side rack assembly. On installing back a new one lift this device upwardly while connecting intermediate sleeve like connector to entrance pipe by positioning marks appropriately on them both Install rack mountings with their specified degree of tightness Force tie rod ball joint into place before tightening up its fasteners Reverse process following removal ensuring that all fixings are torqued as per specifications Lastly do wheel alignment when required.
