To remove the rack and pinion, start by loosening the front wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the wheels and mark the relationship of the intermediate shaft to the steering shaft U-joint. Remove the pinch bolt and separate the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. Detach the links from the ends of the stabilizer bar and unclip the shift cable from the rack and pinion if the vehicle is equipped with a CVT automatic transaxle. Remove the rack and pinion mounting bolts and separate the intermediate shaft U-joint from the rack and pinion input shaft. Finally, remove the rack and pinion assembly from the right side of the vehicle. To install the rack and pinion, raise it into position and connect the intermediate shaft U-joint to the input shaft, aligning the marks. Install the rack and pinion mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque. Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckle arms. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal process, ensuring that all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque. Finally, have the wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
