Q:
How to remove and install the Transmission Pan? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and install the 4T60 and 4T60-E transaxle, start by raising and supporting the vehicle. Place a drain pan under the transmission pan and remove the retaining bolts at the front and sides of the pan. Loosen the rear bolts and pry the pan loose to drain the fluid. Remove the remaining bolts and the pan, as well as the transaxle screen/filter. Inspect the pan and screen for any foreign material and clean them if necessary. Clean all gasket mating surfaces and inspect the pan flange for distortion. Install the new filter and screen, followed by the new gasket and pan. Lower the vehicle and fill the transaxle with fluid. Start the engine and check for leaks. For the 4T80-E transaxle, raise and support the vehicle and place a drain pan under the transmission pan. Loosen the bottom pan bolts and drain the fluid. Remove the drain plug in the case to drain the remaining fluid. Remove the bolts, pan, and seal, as well as the left and right scavenger screens. Inspect the lip seals and screens for damage and replace if necessary. Check the pan and case for any dents or nicks that could cause leaks. Clean the screens, pan, bolts, and tapped holes. Install the drain plug, screens, and pan with a new seal. Tighten the bolts in three steps. Lower the vehicle and add the proper amount of fluid. Start the engine and check the fluid level.
