- A:To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging the system and disconnecting the battery cable at the negative terminal. Then, disconnect the refrigerant inlet and outlet lines and cap or plug them to prevent dirt or moisture from entering. Loosen the clamp bolt on the mounting bracket and remove the accumulator from the compartment. For installation, if replacing with a new accumulator, add one ounce of fresh refrigerant oil (or two ounces for 1999 and later models) to the new unit. Place the new accumulator in the bracket, ensuring the mounting clamp is reversed for easier future removal. Install the inlet and outlet lines, using clean refrigerant oil on the new o-rings.
