How to remove and install an A/C Orifice Tube on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Properly discharge the air conditioning system into a recovery/recycling machine, raise and support the vehicle, disconnect the fitting, and the liquid line from the condenser outlet, cap the refrigerant lines when opening the system to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture and the loss of refrigerant lubricant, remove the A/C orifice tube using the orifice remover, remove as much of any impacted residue as possible, if the system has a pressure switch near the orifice tube location, it should be removed prior to the next step, carefully apply heat with a heat gun (hair drier) approximately ¼ in. (6mm) from the dimples on the inlet pipe, do not overheat the pipe, while applying heat, use the extractor tool to grip the A/C orifice tube, use a turning motion, along with a push-pull motion, to loosen the impacted A/C orifice tube and remove it, install the A/C orifice tube with the shorter screen end in first, connect the line to the condenser outlet, then tighten, lower the vehicle, evacuate, charge and leak test the system. Metal chips, flakes or silvers found on the A/C orifice tube screen can usually be blown out with shop air once the tube is removed, replace the tube only if one or more of the conditions is noticed such as the plastic frame is broken, the brass A/C orifice tube is damaged or plugged, the screen material is torn, or the screen is plugged with fine or gritty materials. The use of special tools will be needed for this procedure, J-26549-C the orifice tool remover and J-26549-D or equivalent, and an extractor.

    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the A/C orifice tube in the air conditioning system on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
Seville excluded, the 1999 models require discharging the air conditioning system and recovering the refrigerant before continuing. You should use two wrenches to separate the high-pressure line of refrigerant so that it does not twist. The orifice tube which is located in cowl area near high pressure line and just ahead of evaporator can be found at fitting junction next to where orifice is sited. It has a fixed diameter orifice and mesh filters at each end and needle-nose pliers can be used to take it out. Orifice tube serves as a refrigerant metering device converting it into low pressure liquid/vapor mixture from a high pressure liquid. It can be taken out with needle nose pliers. In case grit hasn't plugged screens nor been torn off screens' plastic housing nor hindered brass orifice within plastic housing, then one can still use this orifice tube again. On installation, insert the shorter end of expansion tube first towards evaporator; also tighten back fitting and refrigerant line then evacuate, recharge, and leak-test system. Discharge the air conditioning system and recover refrigerant for 1999 Seville, as well as 2000-2005 models too. Two wrenches should be used when disconnecting air conditioning lines around accumulator location. Flared tubing should be separated from line when they are disconnected from filling pipe leading to evaporator where you would find an orifice tube which is a tubular structure with a fixed-diameter orifice on either side of this tubing while using needle nosed pliers remove it as well . It acts as a meter for refriggerent changing it from high pressure liquid into low pressure liquid/vapour mixture; if none of these conditions exists then reuse this orfice tube. The reverse way of removing things involves inserting the shorter end of expansion tube first towards evaporator after repeating tightening back fitting and refriegerant line then evacuating, recharging and leak-testing system.

    Q:
How to remove and install A/C Orifice Tube on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the system, start by discharging it and then disconnect the refrigerant line at the evaporator inlet. Remove the orifice tube screen from the inlet tube. For installation, follow the reverse steps of removal, making sure to install the end marked "shorter screen end" first. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.

    Q:
How to remove the A/C Orifice Tube on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging it and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, open the hood and locate the evaporator line connection on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. Remove the mounting bolt and separate the lines, replacing the O-ring with a new one. The A/C orifice tube, which has a fixed-diameter orifice and mesh filters at each end, can be found inside the line leading to the evaporator. Use needle-nose pliers to remove it. The orifice tube is responsible for metering the refrigerant and changing it from a high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure gas. It can be reused if the screens are not plugged, torn, or the plastic housing over the screen is intact, and the brass orifice inside the housing is unrestricted. For installation, insert the orifice tube with the shorter end in first, towards the evaporator, and always replace the O-ring with a new one. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.

    Q:
How to remove the A/C orifice tube on Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the A/C orifice tube, start by discharging and recovering the refrigerant. Then, open the hood and locate the fitting for the A/C orifice tube. Hold the stationary fitting with one wrench and loosen the other fitting with another wrench. Inside the pipe leading to the evaporator, you will find the orifice tube with a fixed-diameter orifice and mesh filters at each end. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the orifice tube. It is important to check if the screens are not plugged, torn, and if the plastic housing over the screens is intact, as well as ensuring that the brass orifice inside the housing is unrestricted. For installation, insert the A/C orifice tube with the shorter end first towards the evaporator. Reconnect the refrigerant line and tighten the fitting securely. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested by a professional shop.

    Q:
How to replace the A/C Orifice Tube on Chevrolet K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the A/C orifice tube in your vehicle's air conditioning system, it is recommended to have an air conditioning technician discharge and recover the refrigerant. Once the refrigerant has been discharged, open the hood and locate the A/C orifice tube fitting. Using two wrenches, hold the stationary fitting and loosen the other fitting. Inside the pipe leading to the evaporator, you will find the orifice tube with a fixed-diameter orifice and mesh filters at each end. Use needle-nose pliers to carefully remove the A/C orifice tube, applying heat if necessary. Before reinstalling, ensure that the screens are not plugged or damaged, the plastic housing is intact, and the brass orifice is unrestricted. When installing the new A/C orifice tube, insert it with the shorter end first towards the evaporator, and use a new O-ring lubricated with the proper refrigerant oil. Finally, reconnect the refrigerant line securely and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested by a professional technician.
