The boot and stop ring should be slid off the axleshaft, and the old grease should be cleaned out of the housing and spider assembly. Each bearing should be carefully removed, cleaned, and inspected. CV joint grease should be applied to the inner bearing surfaces, and the bearing should be slid over them. The boot, stop ring, spider bearing, spider retaining ring, and spider assembly should be reinstalled. The housing should be packed with grease, and the boot should be seated in the housing and axle seal grooves. The CV joint should be adjusted to the proper length, and the boot clamps should be secured. To replace the outer CV boot, the boot retaining clamps should be cut off, and the boot should be slid back. The ends of the internal snap-ring should be spread apart, and the CV joint should be slid off the shaft. The inner race should be pressed down to remove a ball bearing, and the balls should be pried out of the cage. The inner race and cage should be tilted and rotated to remove them from the outer race. The components should be cleaned and inspected for damage. The assembly should be reinstalled by lowering it into the housing, rotating it, and pressing the balls into the cage windows.
