If the engine has been removed from the car, disregard the following steps which do not apply. Begin by removing the intake manifold, followed by the pushrods from the lifters, which requires the removal of the rocker covers and loosening the rocker arm nuts. Next, take out the valve lifters, ensuring each is kept separate for proper reinstallation. Proceed to remove the front grille, radiator, shroud, air conditioning condenser, and hood catch support as needed to create clearance for the camshaft during extraction. Remove the fuel pump and fuel pump pushrod, then take off the torsional damper, crankcase front cover, and camshaft sprocket/timing chain. Install two 5/16 in-18x4 in bolts into the camshaft bolt holes to use as grips for pulling the camshaft. Carefully draw the camshaft out of the engine block, doing so slowly to prevent damage to the camshaft bearings as the journals pass through the bearing surfaces, while supporting the camshaft with one hand near the engine block. Before installing the camshaft, coat each of the lobes and journals liberally with 'Molykote' or an equivalent product. Slide the camshaft into the engine block, taking extra care not to damage the bearings, and then install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal. Finally, adjust the valve lash.
