Chevrolet 15595048 Clamp Assembly, Exhaust Muffler Extension

Caution is advised as the vehicle's exhaust system generates very high temperatures, necessitating a complete cooldown before any components are handled, particularly around the catalytic converter where temperatures peak. Due to the high temperatures and exposed locations of exhaust system components, rust and corrosion can cause parts to become stuck. Liquid penetrating oils can assist in loosening frozen fasteners, but cutting pieces apart with a hacksaw or cutting torch may be required in some cases, which should only be performed by experienced individuals. To begin, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. For the front exhaust pipe, remove the bolts securing it to the exhaust manifold(s) and the clamp connecting it to the catalytic converter, then separate the pipe from both the manifold(s) and the converter, ensuring to install new bolts, gaskets, and nuts during reinstallation. When handling the catalytic converter, ensure it has cooled sufficiently before removing the converter-to-front exhaust pipe clamp and the air management pipe-to-converter clamp, followed by the bolts securing the rear of the converter to the converter/intermediate pipe bracket. Reinstallation should also use new gaskets, bolts, and nuts. For the intermediate exhaust pipe, remove the clamp securing it to the muffler/tailpipe assembly and the bolts connecting it to the intermediate pipe/converter bracket, then remove the pipe and reinstall using new gaskets, bolts, and nuts. The tailpipe is part of the muffler assembly; remove the bolts and nuts connecting the muffler to the intermediate exhaust pipe, then take out the muffler/tailpipe assembly rear hanger bolts to separate it from the vehicle, ensuring to use new nuts and bolts during reinstallation.
