Q:
How to remove and install the instrument cluster on Chevrolet C1500 and K1500 equipped with a Delco Loc II anti-theft audio system? Posted by Customer
A:
On models equipped with a Delco Loc II anti-theft audio system, be sure the lockout feature is turned off before performing any procedure which requires disconnecting the battery. For 1988 through 1994 models, disconnect the negative cable at the battery. Remove the radio control module and the heater control unit. Remove the screws that retain the instrument cluster trim panel and remove the panel. Remove the cluster retaining screw that is located behind the radio control module. Remove the center panel from the lower dash. Remove the shift indicator cable from the steering column shroud. Disconnect the wiring harness by carefully pulling the instrument cluster forward and then remove the cluster. The instrument cluster and the housing must not be separated because of the danger of static electricity damaging the computer chips that are contained within the cluster. If the instrument cluster must be replaced, take it to a dealer service department. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 1995 and later models, disconnect the negative cable at the battery. Remove the cup holder from the instrument panel. Unhook the 4 clips across the top and 3 across the bottom of the instrument cluster trim panel. Remove the trim panel. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the headlight switch, dimmer control and accessory switches. Remove the instrument cluster mounting screws and carefully pull the cluster out of the dash. The instrument cluster and the housing must not be separated because of the danger of static electricity damaging the computer chips that are contained within the cluster. If the instrument cluster must be replaced, take it to a dealer service department, exchange units may be available. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Remove the screws retaining the instrument cluster trim panel and remove the panel. Remove the cluster retaining screw located behind the radio control module.
