Chevrolet 19110930 Distributor Cap Assembly

In this case it will do well to ensure that the spark plug wires are connected to the distributor cap in the correct sequence. First, buy a new distributor cap from your car model year and engine size. Subsequently it is required to turn the gear collar of the distributor by a quarter of a turn clockwise, pull the new cap downwards to engage the latches and then turn the latches another 1/4 turn to lock them. After removing the old cap, clean the socket and place the new cap adjacent to the old one: the metal window and the two latching clips are going to remain in the same position relative to the new cap as they were in the case of the old one. Start swapping the spark plug wires gradually from the old cap to a new one: do not pull on the wire insulation; rather, twist the rubber boot slightly, and pull the plug wire by the boot. Secure the plug wires and boots into the new distributor cap as tightly as is possible. Last, align the new cap and plug wires over the top of the distributor and tighten the clamp, in both push and turn motion, to make sure that the cap is placed well.
