If the car has air conditioning look at the routing of the hoses, and the position of the compressor, which in some cases can be removed without having to disconnect some of the exhaust manifolds; if not certain ask at the dealer or a local air conditioning specialist to depressurize the system and never disconnect the hoses that are pressurized. Start with the removal of the negative battery terminal next you the removal of the hot air pipe from the carbureted and TBI models right exhaust manifold to the air cleaner. Before removal, number the spark plug wires with tapes to facilitate reinstallation, removing the wires should be done by pulling on the rubber boot not the wire. The spark plug heat shields can be unbolted and the AIR hoses which are connected to the manifold check valve; the single metallic pipe and the AIR manifold can be together removed with the exhaust manifold. With out removing the hoses, remove the brackets holding the power steering pump and the air conditioning compressor from the left side manifold and place them aside. Remove the exhaust pipes from the manifold flanges and suspend the pipes on the frame with wire. Should there be bolt locking strips then you pry them up to the bolt heads to ease the process of unlocking. Loosen then take off the end bolts of the exhaust manifold then the center bolts; finally, pull the manifold and AIR injection tubes upward off the engine. Concerning the exhaust manifolds, when removing the old ones, carry along the carburetor hot air stove and the AIR injection tube system to the new manifolds. Remove the worn manifold and clean the mating surfaces on the cylinder heads and manifolds before fitting the new manifold, when tightening the bolts, start with the center bolts then the end bolts, if planning on spark plug access then fitting the left rear spark plug heat shield first will make access easier. Replace the other parts in the reverse order and put a new gasket or packing if required at the exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe flange joints and finally switch on the engine to look for exhaust leakages between the manifolds and the pipes.
