To remove and inspect the rocker arms, begin by detaching the rocker arm covers from the cylinder heads and then loosen and remove the rocker arm stud nuts, ensuring they are stored separately for reinstallation in their original positions. When removing push rods, only loosen each nut enough to rotate the rocker arms to the side for push rod removal. Lift off the rocker arms and pivot balls, storing them with the nuts. Remove the push rods and store them orderly. For inspection, examine the rocker arms for wear, cracks, and damage, especially where they contact pushrods and valve stems. Ensure the push rod end holes in each rocker arm are open and check for wear, cracks, and galling in the rocker arm pivot areas. If rocker arms are worn or damaged, replace them with new ones and use new pivot balls. Inspect the pushrods for cracks, excessive wear, and bending. Lubricate the pushrod ends with engine oil or moly-base grease before reinstalling them in their original locations, ensuring they seat properly in the lifter socket. Apply moly-base grease to the valve stem ends and pushrod upper ends before positioning the rocker arms over the studs. Install pivot balls and nuts with the flat side against the pivot ball, using moly-base grease on the pivot balls to provide initial lubrication until oil pressure builds up. Valve adjustment should follow specific instructions for different engine types, and after adjustments are complete, reinstall the rocker arm covers, start the engine, check for unusual valve train noises, and inspect for oil leaks at the rocker arm cover joints.

Lift off the rocker arms and pivot balls, storing them with the nuts.
