To remove the shift lever, start by placing the shift lever in Neutral and removing the battery, battery box, and tray. Then, carefully pry the end of the shift cable off of the ball stud on the Automatic Transmission Shift Position Sensor Switch using two screwdrivers. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch and remove the control lever nut and lever. Finally, remove the mounting fasteners and lift off the switch. To install the new switch, ensure that the transaxle is in Neutral and align the flats on the switch with the flats on the shaft. Install the switch, leaving the mounting fasteners snug until you verify that the engine will only start in Park and Neutral. Install the lever and complete the rest of the installation in reverse order. Verify that the engine will only start in Park or Neutral and tighten the switch bolts securely.

The back-up light switch is located above the left-side driveaxle.

To remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Position Sensor Switch, start by setting the parking brake and placing the shift lever in the neutral position. Locate the switch on top of the transaxle and disconnect the shift control cable from the switch lever. Then, disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Remove the switch lever nut and the lever itself. Finally, remove the switch mounting bolts and take out the switch. To install the switch, ensure that the shift lever is still in neutral. Align the notches on the transaxle shift shaft with the notches on the switch and loosely install the mounting bolts. Use a special switch alignment tool to rotate the switch until it falls into place. Once correctly aligned, tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque. The rest of the installation process is the reverse of removal, making sure to tighten the switch lever nut to the specified torque while holding it with water pump pliers.
