    Q:
How to remove and install the Steering Knuckle and Spindle on Cadillac Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lift and properly hold the car so the front suspension can move freely down. Loosen the wheel, castor pin, and bearing on both sides of the vehicle. Twice, remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod end using tool J-24319-01 or an equivalent tool. Use a separator attached to the tool to disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Take off the cotter pin and nut from the ball joint stud with ball joint separator tool J-36226 or equivalent tool to disconnect the joint from the steering knuckle on Deville and Fleetwood models. If your vehicle has an anti-lock brake wheel speed sensor, detach it if you need to. Detach and take away the steering knuckle bolts from the strut before removing the steering knuckle. Following set up, place the steering knuckle and gradually tighten the steering knuckle bolts until they reach 140 ft.-lbs., using 190 Nm torque. Reattach the anti-lock brake wheel speed sensor when you need to. Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle, fasten a castellated nut, and tighten its bolt to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm) before tightening the bolt 120°. Also make sure that the bolt gets up to a torque of 4 ft. lbs. (55 Nm). When it's hard to add the cotter pin correctly, you can make the nut tighter by 60° to help with installation. Always make sure to never loosen the nut when this happens. Attach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle, install the nut on this end, and fix it in place with 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm) force. At this point, insert a new cotter pin. When the cotter pin won't fit correctly, you can apply a tight force of 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm) to the nut, but never back off the nut after tightening. After that, place the hub and bearing pieces in place. Then put on the wheel and tire, then lower the car carefully and check the front tire alignment.
