The 2.2L and 2.4L models of this vehicle have a single fan mounted on the engine side of the radiator, while the 2.0L models have two fans mounted side-by-side. The speed and duration of the fans are regulated by a fan control module and the PCM, based on engine temperature and air conditioning usage. The fans are protected by fuses located in the engine compartment fuse/relay box. The PCM can run the fans at Low or High speeds, depending on engine needs. If the engine is overheating and the radiator fan is not coming on, the fan motor should be tested by connecting it directly to the battery. If the motor does not come on, it should be replaced. If the motor is okay but the radiator fan is still not coming on, the fan relay may be defective. The fuses should be checked for continuity, and if they are okay, the wiring, connections, ECT sensor, and fan control module should be inspected. For removal and installation of the radiator fan, the fan motor harness connectors should be disconnected, the vehicle should be raised and supported on jackstands, the under-vehicle splash shield should be removed, and the fan assembly should be released from the radiator and lowered out from the bottom of the vehicle. The installation process is the reverse of the removal procedure.
