    Q:
How to remove and replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the starter motor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CKP sensor, which is on the right rear of the engine block. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CKP sensor. Remove and inspect the sensor O-ring. If it's cut, torn or otherwise deteriorated, replace it. Lubricate the sensor O-ring with clean engine oil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
Both V6 and V8 models have their CKP sensors placed on the back side of the engine block. When you have to drive the vehicle to a dealer, after replacing the CKP sensor and starting the engine, and let service department perform crank-shaft position variation team procedure with a factory scan tool if Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) comes on. To replace the sensor, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. The electrical connector should be disconnected from CKP sensor. That bolt that holds CKP sensor should be removed. The old CKP sensor 0-ring should be removed and discarded thereafter. Be sure to use a new 0-ring when installing even if you are installing an old one. Just reverse what you did when removing it as far as installation is concerned. Remember to use a new 0-ring and tighten up CKP sensor mounting bolt properly. On V8 models, near flywheel is where CKP sensor is located at. Get rid of the rear exhaust manifold. Removing electrical connector while undoing the mounting bolt for removing CKP sensor from V8 would do it all for you. Remove the crankshaft position sensor mounting bolt and take out it from there completely in order to remove its o-ring .It is just a matter of reversing what happened during removal in terms of installation also remember to tighten the Crankshaft Position Sensor mounting bolt properly.

    Q:
What does the Crankshaft Position Sensor provide to the PCM on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor provides the PCM with a crankshaft position signal, which the PCM uses to determine the spark sequence for each cylinder, control ignition timing, and calculate engine speed. The signal is also used by the Onboard Diagnostic system for misfire detection. The sensor is triggered by slots cut into a reluctor ring on the crankshaft and is positioned approximately 0.050 inch from the reluctor ring. As the notches pass the sensor, the magnetic field is altered, producing a pulsating voltage. The ignition system will not operate if the PCM does not receive a crankshaft position sensor input. When replacing the sensor, the PCM must be reprogrammed using special equipment and a crankshaft sensor variation relearn procedure must be performed using a special TECH 2 scan tool. This should be done by a dealer service department or other qualified automotive repair facility. To replace the sensor, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor, remove the sensor mounting bolt and the sensor itself. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
What should you do if the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is illuminated after installing the CKP sensor for the 2007 Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the MIL is illuminated after installation, it may indicate a Diagnostic Trouble Code (OTC) related to the CKP system variation not learned. In this case, a dealer technician can perform the necessary procedure to relearn the variation between the CKP and CMP sensors and clear the OTC from the PCM's memory.
