To disconnect the CMP sensor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, remove the engine cover. For 2014 and earlier 4.3L V6 and 5.0L, 5.7L, and 7.4L V8 engines, disconnect the spark plug wires and ignition coil wire from the distributor cap, then remove the distributor cap and rotor. Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector and rotate the crankshaft until the square slot in the reluctor aligns with the CMP sensor. Remove the sensor mounting screws and take out the CMP sensor. When installing the CMP sensor, ensure that the square slot in the reluctor aligns with the sensor. For 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L V8 engines, disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor and remove the mounting bolt to take out the sensor. For 2018 and later 4.3L VG engine and 2008 and later 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L V8 engines, remove the cooling fan upper shroud and raise the vehicle on jackstands. Disconnect the lower electrical connector at the bottom of the timing chain cover and then remove the harness bracket bolts. Move the harness/bracket until the upper electrical connector can be disconnected from the sensor. Remove the sensor mounting bolt, discard the sensor seal, and install a new seal onto the sensor. Finally, install the sensor and tighten the mounting bolts securely.
