- A:Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. On four-cylinder and 3.0L V6 models, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the wiring from the starter. This includes disconnecting the battery cable and the solenoid wiring from the starter. On 3.5L V6 models, peel back the rubber boot and pull off the electrical connector, then peel back the rubber boot, remove the nut and remove the starter cable. Unscrew the starter mounting bolts, move aside any brackets and remove the starter. This includes the upper and lower starter mounting bolts on the 3.5L V6 model. Manipulate the starter to clear the engine block and take it out of the bellhousing. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the starter mounting bolts, then reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
