    Q:
How to remove and install shock absorbers on Cadillac ElDorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Turn off the battery's negative terminal, lift the vehicle with jack stands while safely holding its frame, undo the wheel from its tires, then disconnect the electrical plug from the top of the strut on Eldorado and Seville models. Also unscrew the road sensing suspension position sensor from the lower control arm for vehicles with a 4.6L engine. Take off the electrical plug from the top of the Eldorado and Seville struts, and pull out the road sensing suspension position sensor in front of the lower control arm for engines with 4.6L capacity. Undo the nuts holding the top of the strut to the body. Then take out the stabilizer link and brake line bracket from the strut. Disconnect and set aside head bolt for strut while holding up the lower knuckle with wires, to avoid damage. Connect first the strut to the knuckle using bolts and nuts, then to the body using only nuts, and finally add the brake line bracket and stabilizer link. Attach the road sensing suspension sensor to its position on the lower control arm, and plug in the electrical cable at the top of the strut when present. Fasten the strut-to-knuckle bolts to 140 foot pounds, strut-to-body nuts to 18 foot pounds, stabilizer link nuts to 48 foot pounds, and tie bar through bolts to 20 foot pounds. Then place wheels back on the vehicle, lower it to the ground, check and readjust the front wheel alignment. To take apart a strut assembly during overhaul, put it in a strut compressor tool, squeeze the spring slightly, and use a special tool to lock the shaft from rotating while removing the nut at the top of the shaft. Turn the compressor screw while carefully pulling the strut shaft out, so you can take the strut and spring off of the assembly together. To get the job done, place the strut inside a compressor tool. Grasp the strut shaft, then slide the spring over it. Make sure the flat side on the upper spring seat points toward the vehicle center. Thread the strut shaft through the top of the assembly, then put on the washer and nut when the threads come into sight. Pull out the clamping tool and tighten the strut shaft nut to 74Nm using a T50 bit while keeping the shaft steady, then take the strut from the compressor.

    Q:
What steps should be followed when installing the strut for the 1991 Cadillac ElDorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
When installing the strut, ensure the wiring is upright and centered on the strut mount if equipped with Computer Command Ride. Tighten the strut tower mounting nuts to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and the strut-to-knuckle nuts to 140 ft. lbs. (190 Nm). Moisten the air line O-rings with lubricant and push the air line and connector fully into the fitting. Reattach the electrical connector if equipped with Computer Command Ride.
