- Q:How do you remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder and Ignition Switch in Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
- A:To remove the ignition switch, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, remove the steering column covers and turn the ignition key to the Run position. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch and remove the two switch mounting screws to take out the ignition switch. For installation, reconnect the battery and follow the reverse steps. Another procedure for installation involves turning the key to ON, attempting to start by turning the key, watching the SECURITY message on the instrument cluster for it to go off in ten minutes, turning the key to OFF, waiting five seconds, repeating these steps two more times, and finally turning the key from OFF to Start to Off for the vehicle to start on the next turn to Start. To remove the ignition lock cylinder, remove the steering column covers and insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder, rotating it to the RUN position. Use an awl or punch to depress the detents in the small holes on the ignition cylinder casting, allowing the cylinder to come out. Before installation, ensure that the actuator blade inside the ignition lock cylinder bore is in the RUN position. For installation, follow the reverse steps and verify the correct operation of the ignition switch in different positions. To replace the ignition key, insert the key into the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn it to the ON position. Wait for the security message on the instrument cluster to go off in ten minutes, then turn the ignition lock cylinder to the OFF position and wait five seconds. Repeat these steps two more times and start the engine to confirm proper procedure. To add a new key, use the existing ignition key to turn it to the ON position. Then, turn it to the OFF position and within ten seconds, insert the new key and turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ON position.
