Q:
How do you remove and install fuel injectors and fuel rails on Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and install fuel injectors and fuel rails, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Remove the air intake duct and engine cover, and on certain engines, the upper intake manifold. Disconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables, as well as any wiring harnesses that may interfere with fuel rail removal. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator and any other vacuum hoses in the way. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors and the fuel supply and return lines from the fuel rail. Clean around the injectors and remove the fuel rail and injectors as an assembly. Remove the retaining clip and replace the O-rings and seals. To install, coat the new O-rings with engine oil and insert the injectors into the fuel rail. Install the injector retaining clip and mount the assembly onto the intake manifold. Connect the fuel supply and return lines, as well as the electrical connectors. Finally, turn the ignition switch to On and check for fuel leakage. For a different removal and installation process, relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the air intake duct, intake manifold, and fuel pump/fuel rail insulator. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors and remove the mounting bolts from both fuel rails. Pry the fuel rails and injectors out of the cylinder head and remove the retaining clip. Take out each injector from the fuel rail and replace the Teflon sealing ring and O-rings. Clean the injector bores and install the compensation element and retaining ring on each injector. Install the injectors in the fuel rail and secure them with new retainers. Install the fuel rail and injectors, tightening the bolts to the proper torque specifications. Complete the installation by connecting the high-pressure fuel line fittings, applying thread locking compound, and installing a new fuel rail fuel pressure sensor.
