Pontiac 88973940 Strut

Shocks and coil springs also should always be replaced simultaneously, as they are installed in pairs. To assembled it, first of all, open the trunk lid and take out the spare tyre. Third, the left and right inner trim panels, and the floor trim panel which is situated ahead of the spare tire well, should also be unbolted and taken off. Lift the rear of the vehicle and keep it raised on jackstands, using the floor jack to support the axle beam next to the shock absorber being removed. From insides of the trunk, remove the two nuts at the upper mount, while observing the shock absorber below still has one bolt holding it. Loosen the bolt from below and this will help to disconnect the upper assembly of the shock absorber to the body. Subsequently, undo the lower mounting nut and washer to pull out the rear shock absorper from the axle beam and to separate the shock absorber assembly which may also necessitate lowering of the car by using floor jack. The installation is rather simple, first you need to position the assembly into the fenderwell, then you put the lower mounting on the stud, further slip the upper mounting studs into the body holes and fix them with the bolt from beneath. Replace the lower washer and nut on the extended housing and lift the axle beam raising it to standard static height while tightening the nut. Last but not the least, fit the two upper mounting nuts and screw the nuts tightly, in addition, replace the spare tire as well as trim the panels of the trunk.
