  Q: How to remove and install a starter motor in a Cadillac CTS?

  A: Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the underbody cover. For 3.2L V6 engines, remove the passenger's side catalytic converter then remove the heat shield fasteners and shield. Remove the heat shield mounting bracket fasteners and remove the bracket. Support the engine and remove the right side engine mount. Disconnect the starter solenoid wire nut and the starter Battery Cable nut and disconnect both wires from the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the starter mounting stud and bolt securely. For 2.8L, 3.0L and 3.6L V6 engines, remove the starter solenoid wire nut and the starter battery cable nut, then disconnect both wires from the starter. Note: Some models are equipped with a starter heat shield; if the engine is equipped with a heat shield, the passenger's side catalytic converter must be disconnected and removed. Remove the starter mounting fasteners and remove the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal. For V8 engines, remove the passenger's side catalytic converter. Remove the starter solenoid wire nut and the starter battery cable nut, then disconnect both wires from the starter. Remove the starter mounting fasteners and remove the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal.
